Contessa is a leading lingerie retailer founded in the 1950's by Courtalds and bought out of receivership in 1996 by Chancerealm Ltd, controlled by Theo Paphitis.
Having streamlined operations, Contessa was transformed into a successful company with 71 stores throughout England and Wales.
Contessa's product range includes co-ordinating lingerie, nightwear, everyday bras and briefs, sports and speciality bras, control wear and hosiery. Stores also stock many bra accessories including breast enhancers and clear straps.
Each store offers professionally trained staff providing free bra fitting consultations to every customer, creating a unique shopping experience. Contessa also operates a highly successful e-commerce business - www.contessa.co.uk and recently launched its own brand of lingerie - Figura.
Contessa was recently sold to Lion Capital, the same private equity firm which purchased La senza in 2006. Following this, Contessa stores will be undergoing a conversion programme throughout 2007 to be re-branded La Senza.
