Theo Judges Premier League Enterprise Challenge Finals

As a director of Comic Relief, Theo was once again invited to be a judge at the Sport Relief Premier League Enterprise Challenge finals 2017, alongside former Premier League and England defender, Graeme Le Saux and Peta Bistany, Executive Office Director, Premier League.

The Premier League Enterprise Challenge, a Sport Relief event, gives young people of secondary school age the chance to work with their local professional football clubs on an actual football business challenge set by Premier League Executive Chairman, Richard Scudamore.

The teams were also given an on-the-spot challenge for the first time, to which they had only half an hour to prepare their presentations and how they would use their £5,000 budget, before they had to present their ideas to the judges. The challenge related to the football club expanding their international fan base and income streams in the USA.

Theo had the tough job of co-judging the presentations alongside Graeme and Peta.

Graeme Le Saux commented on the day and noted the “excellent standard” at this year’s Premier League Enterprise final.

The six very talented finalists were:

  • Derby County FC
  • Liverpool FC
  • Manchester City FC
  • Sunderland AFC
  • Tottenham Hotspur FC
  • West Ham United FC

Congratulations to the overall winner Derby County FC who were represented by The Pingle School. A very articulate, self-assured & impressive group of students! Huge congratulations to all finalists, whose work was of an exceptionally high standard, making it a tough year to judge!

Theo was later interviewed about the winning team and he said: “They gave a great presentation, as did quite a few of the others, but they came out with something that was original. They came out with a way of engaging with the social and digital world out there, they came with original ideas and some things that the club wasn’t doing already. They were bringing a new strand to everything and identified their market; they ticked so many of those boxes of having a chance to be successful.”
