Theo Takes the Dyslexia Conversation to Sky News Following House of Lords Report Launch
Fresh from launching the British Dyslexia Association’s Pathway Interrupted report in the House of Lords, Theo joined Sky News’ Morning with Ridge & Frost today to take the conversation to a national audience.
Appearing on the morning show, Theo discussed the urgent findings of the new research - supported by Ryman - and highlighted the invisible crisis facing dyslexic young people across the UK.
Tackling the NEET Crisis
A central focus of the Sky News interview was the alarming connection between undiagnosed dyslexia and the growing number of young people falling into NEET status (Not in Education, Employment, or Training). With over one million young people currently classified as NEET in the UK, Theo emphasised that the education system is fundamentally failing neurodivergent students.
“If we are serious about tackling the NEET crisis, dyslexia cannot be left out of the conversation,” Theo has previously stated, a sentiment he echoed on air this morning.
During the segment, Theo stressed that we must look past the data and remember that behind every statistic is a young person’s lived experience.
A Push for Systemic Change
The Pathway Interrupted report reveals that 70% of dyslexic young people feel school limited their future opportunities, and only 1 in 3 are diagnosed at primary school. On Ridge & Frost, Theo championed the BDA’s calls for change, which include:
Early Screening: Implementing a national pathway for early dyslexia diagnosis.
Teacher Training: Equipping educators with the tools to understand and support dyslexic students.
Dyslexia-Friendly Recruitment: Updating the DWP Disability Confident programme to include employer guidance on inclusive hiring.
